....that's what she said....the first day I met her...
Karen McCann of Rock Productions....
and I thought, "Sure. Why not?!?! That sounds fun & interesting!"
Seriously. It was that simple.
Those of you who know me KNOW that it was just like that....because that's the way I roll. I don't do things like everyone else!
People ask me all of the time....how did you ever get involved in this?!? Or how did you know about that?!? And the answer is networking.
The truth is I collect "people".
There is really no one that I don't find interesting on some level. Everyone has a story or two. All have been somewhere cool...done something neat....or are headed on a fun new adventure.
The key is to take a genuine interest in people. Get to know them. Don't worry so much about them getting to know you. I mean seriously....I live a pretty boring & mundane life....so it's always much more interesting to hear about what someone else has going on!
And then make an effort to help the people you encounter achieve their goals....follow their dreams...get to where they want to go...to grow...to learn something new...
"How?"you ask.
It comes as natural as breathing for me. I guess.
When people start telling me about themselves...what they are doing...where they are heading next....instinctively I start thinking of other people I know who might be interested...who might be able to help them overcome an obstacle they are facing...and I just start putting people together...making connections....
...then I sit back & watch what happens next...
Sometimes, though...I meet someone who has a dream...a passion...a project that captivates me....
Maybe it's the project itself....maybe it's the possibility of impact ...maybe it's the challenge...you know, like when someone says "it can't be done" or "it's impossible"....maybe it's the people who are involved...it's different every time...
Usually it's followed by a whisper from God....then a nudge....& sometimes a swift kick....whatever it takes for me to know it is exactly what I am supposed to being right now....it's the "what's coming next" that I have been waiting to present itself...
That's how it was when I met Karen McCann.
Karen has a passion for film making. She loves Arkansas. Karen wants to tell stories of hope. She wants to portray Arkansas and its people as we really are not as some stereotypical image. Karen believes that lives can be touched....that hope & love changes things...she wants to make a difference.
She shared with me the story of Brooke....and I was hooked! It would have been impossible for me to not get involved in STEP AWAY FROM THE STONE.
It's funny. Karen and I should have known each other our entire lives. But we didn't.
Our parents ran in many of the same circles. Her father's business partners & their families spent many summer days at the lake with my family. Not the McCanns.
I met Karen at a Networking Lunch in the fall of 2009.
One week Jon invited Hays. Hayes met Mark. Mark introduced Hays to me. Hays brought Mark & I to Karen.
...and just like that....we are making a movie!
Want to make some new connections? Then get out & meet people. You are welcome to come our networking lunch anytime. It's very informal and it's free...you just buy your lunch! Every Thursday at Daddy's Deli (Breckenridge Village in Little Rock, AR) at noon. Just show up...bring a friend if you are shy...you are always welcome!

It's going to be exciting....it's going to be fun....& I promise you will meet some new, interesting folks if you come along for the ride....
