Try Outs....

Does anyone besides me remember "try-outs"?

It seems like when we were in school, there was always something to try out for...cheerleader, athletic team, choir, drill team (dance teams didn't come along until later!), debate, and on and on and on....

And I am not sure that we really "got it"...the whole purpose of try outs...

It wasn't supposed to be about acceptance....or popularity...even though it often felt that way at times...

Try outs are about honing your skills....preparing yourself for a challenge...pursuing opportunities...presenting yourself in the best possible fashion....

People who are "go for it"...well, they "get it"....

....and if you never TRY OUT for anything, then you will never get to be a part of the team....to strut your stuff...to sing your song....to hone your talents & abilities...to grow...

Tonite the first Open Cast Call for the movie STEP AWAY FROM THE STONE will be held at The Arkansas Repertory Theatre from 6 to 8 p.m.  (If you can't make it tonite, there will be another Cast Call on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

Anyone....and I do mean ANYONE....who has ever thought acting or being in a movie sounded fun & interesting is invited to come out and read for one of the many roles.  The producers aren't just looking for "experience"...they are looking for natural, genuine talent....people who embody the spirit & personality of the characters in the story....

All of the parts are listed at http://www.rockproductions.net/ under the "casting" tab.  Why not take a look?!?  Pick out a role that appeals to you....then come on down to The Rep....and TRY OUT!

Let's Make A Movie....

....that's what she said....the first day I met her...

Karen McCann of Rock Productions....

and I thought, "Sure.  Why not?!?!  That sounds fun & interesting!"

Seriously.  It was that simple.

Those of you who know me KNOW that it was just like that....because that's the way I roll.  I don't do things like everyone else!

People ask me all of the time....how did you ever get involved in this?!?  Or how did you know about that?!?  And the answer is networking.

The truth is I collect "people".

There is really no one that I don't find interesting on some level.  Everyone has a story or two.  All have been somewhere cool...done something neat....or are headed on a fun new adventure.

The key is to take a genuine interest in people.  Get to know them.  Don't worry so much about them getting to know you.  I mean seriously....I live a pretty boring & mundane life....so it's always much more interesting to hear about what someone else has going on!

And then make an effort to help the people you encounter achieve their goals....follow their dreams...get to where they want to go...to grow...to learn something new...

"How?"you ask.

It comes as natural as breathing for me.  I guess.

When people start telling me about themselves...what they are doing...where they are heading next....instinctively I start thinking of other people I know who might be interested...who might be able to help them overcome an obstacle they are facing...and I just start putting people together...making connections....

...then I sit back & watch what happens next...

Sometimes, though...I meet someone who has a dream...a passion...a project that captivates me....

Maybe it's the project itself....maybe it's the possibility of  impact ...maybe it's the challenge...you know, like when someone says "it can't be done" or "it's impossible"....maybe it's the people who are involved...it's different every time...

Usually it's followed by a whisper from God....then a nudge....& sometimes a swift kick....whatever it takes for me to know it is exactly what I am supposed to being right now....it's the "what's coming next" that I have been waiting to present itself...

That's how it was when I met Karen McCann.

Karen has a passion for film making.  She loves Arkansas.  Karen wants to tell stories of hope.  She wants to portray Arkansas and its people as we really are not as some stereotypical image.  Karen believes that lives can be touched....that hope & love changes things...she wants to make a difference.

She shared with me the story of Brooke....and I was hooked!  It would have been impossible for me to not get involved in STEP AWAY FROM THE STONE.

It's funny.  Karen and I should have known each other our entire lives. But we didn't.

Our parents ran in many of the same circles.  Her father's business partners & their families spent many summer days at the lake with my family.  Not the McCanns.

I met Karen at a Networking Lunch in the fall of 2009.

One week Jon invited Hays.  Hayes met Mark.  Mark introduced Hays to me.  Hays brought Mark & I to Karen.

...and just like that....we are making a movie!

Want to make some new connections?  Then get out & meet people.  You are welcome to come our networking  lunch anytime.  It's very informal and it's free...you just buy your lunch!  Every Thursday at Daddy's Deli (Breckenridge Village in Little Rock, AR) at noon.  Just show up...bring a friend if you are shy...you are always welcome!

And if you want to know more about STEP AWAY FROM THE STONE, visit http://www.rockproductions.net/   Open Casting Calls are taking place this week (Thursday evening & Saturday)....there are a wide variety of parts....you don't have to be experienced to come out for the readings....

Or if behind the scenes is more your style...GREAT!....there are plenty of those things to be done as well...just let me know how you want to get involved in our project...there's room for everyone!

It's going to be exciting....it's going to be fun....& I promise you will meet some new, interesting folks if you come along for the ride....

Karen invited me...I am inviting you....

Let's make a movie!

What's In A Name.....

It's funny...when I decided to venture out on my own last spring...into the world of consulting...I wanted to find a name that reflected the dynamics & diversity of my professional background & experiences...

...Sales...Marketing...Event Planning...NonProfit Mangement...Change...Fundraising...Business Development...

Not to mention capturing the essence of who I am and how I approach things....it's fairly common knowledge that I typically don't do things like "everyone else"...

I collect people.  That's what I do.  Honest.  That's the key to my success.  It's really that simple.

I don't believe in coincidences.  I believe in connections.

Random...or otherwise.

Many names were tossed around.  Considered.  Tried on.  Discarded.

Then someone who knows me really well suggested SYNCHRONICITY!

I liked it immediately....it just felt right.

Looked it up and the definition was so cool, too.

My friend knows me really well....& my love for words....he knew I would like it!

After adopting it....and walking around with it for awhile...something interesting happened....it was somewhat random...fitting, I guess...

I was reviewing my personal blogs from 2008...trying to organize them in some meaningful fashion...and I stumbled upon one that I had completely forgotten...I was totally stunned & amazed to find this one:

December 20, 2008 --- INTERESTING

So yesterday I am reading my horoscope and it says that there will be "majestic synchronicity".....AND an "awesome gift" which may be from a forever unknown giver.....
I carried it around all day because I wasn't exactly sure what "synchronicity" meant....and any thing "majestic" was bound to be interesting.....and an AWESOME gift was intriguing too......

and I fully intended to blog about it so I wanted to be able to put it here verbatim.

I have somehow misplaced it.....in all of the EXCITEMENT, I guess.....

Anyway, I thought "synchronicity" was probably going to mean something along the lines of flowing.....prescision movement...clockwork.....that's what came to mind when I thought of "synchronize".....

Imagine my surprise when I visited webster.com:

Synchronize: intransitive verb : to happen at the same time

transitive verb 1 : to represent or arrange (events) to indicate coincidence or coexistence

HELLOOOOOOO! Did that just say COINCIDENCE?!?! Actually it says "to arrange to INDICATE coincidence"......see, ole Mr. Webster, he didn't really BELIEVE in coincidences either....obviously!

and SYNCHRONICITY: the coincidental occurrence of events and especially psychic events (as similar thoughts in widely separated persons or a mental image of an unexpected event before it happens) that seem related but are not explained by conventional mechanisms of causality —used especially in the psychology of C. G. Jung

Ok, ok....so there he doesn't DISCLAIM coincidences.....but everyone KNOWS that I don't believe in coincidences.....
so it's interesting...."Majestic synchronicity" will be experienced....

Based on the definition it doesnt' necessarily mean that I will be aware of it at the time....it will simply be occuring..... And some pretty weird, random stuff happened yesterday....most of it was not "interesting" and could not really be qualifed as "majestic" or even "positive" .....I sure hope it becomes evident later!

....and yes, I did get a "gift" from an unknown giver...the generous act of goodwill which surrounds the giving of the gift is, indeed, AWESOME!

....so there you have it...I liked it then....I like it now....SYNCHRONICITY!
